School Counseling

At Westward Elementary IB Magnet School, we believe that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. Our School Counseling Program is designed to promote the academic, social-emotional, and college/career development of all students through a comprehensive, data-driven approach.

Our school counselor partners with students, families, teachers, and the community to help students develop the skills they need to become confident learners, responsible citizens, and caring members of our global community.

Our Services

The School Counseling Program provides support through:

  • Individual student counseling for short-term academic, social, and emotional concerns
  • Small group counseling focused on topics such as friendship, self-esteem, conflict resolution, coping skills, grief, and emotional regulation
  • Classroom guidance lessons that promote character development, leadership, digital citizenship, bullying prevention, and responsible decision-making
  • Crisis intervention and student support
  • Collaboration with families, teachers, administrators, and community agencies
  • Referrals to outside community resources when additional support is needed

Supporting Student Success

Our counseling program helps students develop skills in:

  • Building positive relationships
  • Effective communication
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • Goal setting and organization
  • Self-awareness and self-management
  • Responsible decision-making
  • Resilience and perseverance

These skills support both academic achievement and personal growth while reflecting the values of the IB Learner Profile.

Partnering with Families

Families are essential partners in every child's success. Parents and guardians are encouraged to reach out whenever they have concerns about their child's academic progress, behavior, attendance, friendships, or emotional well-being. Working together allows us to provide the best possible support for every student.
